所有电子辅听器的工作原理是一样的。任何辅听器都包括6个基本结构。1．话筒（传声器或麦克风）接收声音并把它转化为电波形式，即把声能转化为电能。2．放大器放大电信号（晶体管放大线路）3．耳机（受话器）把电信号转化为声信号（即把电能转化为声能）。4．耳模（耳塞）置入外耳道。5．音量控制开关6．电源供放大器用的电池。助听器除有上述6部件外，大多数型号的助听器还有3个附件，或称3个附加电路（音调控制、感应线圈、输出限制控制）。现代电子助听器是一放大器，它的功能是增加声能强度并尽可能不失真地传入耳内。因声音的声能不能直接放大，故有必要将其转换为电信号，放大后再转换为声能。输入换能器由传声器（麦克风或话筒）、磁感线圈等部分组成。其作用是将输入声能转为电能传至放大器。放大器将输入电信号放大后，再传至输出换能器。输出换能器由耳机或骨导振动器构成，其作用是把放大的信号由电能再转为声能或动能输出。电源是供给助听器工作能量不可缺少的部分，另外还设有削峰（PC）或自动增益控制（AGC）装置，以适合各种不同程度耳聋病人的需要。
