紧线器是在架空线路敷设施工中作为拉紧导线用的。使用时先把紧线器上的钢丝绳或镀锌铁线松开，并固定在横担上，用夹线钳夹住导线，然后扳动专用板手。由于棘爪的防逆转作用，逐渐把钢丝绳或镀锌铁线绕在棘轮滚筒上，使导线收紧。把收紧的导线固定在绝缘子上。然后先松开棘爪，使钢丝绳或镀锌铁线松开，再松开夹线钳，最后把钢丝绳或镀锌铁线绕在棘轮的滚筒上。
